88% of Australians will maintain or increase their Amazon spend in 2022

  • Pattern’s 2022 Australian Shopper Report polled 1,000 Australian consumers to gain insights and better understand Australian shopper behaviours.

  • The report revealed that post-lockdown sales on Amazon Australia are expected to grow, as is Prime membership amongst Australians.

  • In 2021, Amazon AU hit $1.75 billion AUD in sales and is on route to hit $2 billion AUD this year.

Amazon to deliver 500 million packages yearly through drone delivery program

  • Prime Air, Amazon’s drone delivery program that launched in 2013, plans to deliver 500 million packages yearly as the company pushes for progress in its drone initiatives.

  • Finally, Amazon will test Prime Air with a small sample of 1,300 customers. Test-run items will include a range of around 300 lightweight products from beauty, pharmaceutical and pet categories, deliverable in approximately one hour.

  • In addition, Prime Air aims to conduct 5,000 commercial flights for trial customers by the end of 2022.

Alexa can tell you when products in your Amazon cart are going on sale

  • Prime customers will now be able to receive notifications from their Alexa devices when any item in their basket or in ‘saved items’ is set to go on sale.

  • In an effort to prepare for sales holidays, Alexa will know 24 hours in advance if an item is going on sale and will turn yellow, prompting customers to ask Alexa to read out any notifications.

  • Amazon states the move will allow customers more time to save and prepare for sales holidays.

Over 2,000 SMEs on Alibaba’s Tmall Global achieve $155K USD in sales

  • Over 2,000 small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) earned over $155,000 USD in annual sales on Tmall Global in the past year.

  • Tmall Global presents a huge growth opportunity for SMEs, allowing merchants based outside of China to expand into the market through cross-border selling.

  • Close to 30,000 brands have now launched on Tmall Global, 5,000 of which have been in the past year.

Nreal raises $60M investment funding led by Alibaba

  • Nreal, an augmented reality glasses manufacturer, has raised $60 million USD in Series C funding from Chinese tech giant, Alibaba.

  • Nreal states it’ll use the funding to invest in research and development and for international expansion efforts.

  • Over the past year, Nreal has raised over $200M, most of which is said to be invested in R&D and existing partnerships.

Partnership between Wish and Wix announced

  • Ecommerce marketplace, Wish, has teamed up with software company, Wix to improve product quality across platforms.

  • Through this partnership, Wix will be able to expand its sales platform and merchants will gain access to the vast and global audience on Wish’s platform. This is the latest partnership that Wix has announced, following its Amazon and Klarna collaborations.

Flipkart invests $553 million USD into its own marketplace platform

  • Indian ecommerce giant, Flipkart, has invested more than $553 million USD into its own marketplace platform.

  • The move is thought to be part of Flipkart’s expansion of its grocery business, Flipkart Grocery.

  • India’s ecommerce market is set to grow from $46B to $111.4B by 2025, primarily driven by grocery platforms.
